Location

Monte is one of the most visited areas of Funchal, due to its lush vegetation, breathtaking views of the entire city and its historic fame as the prime location for luxury estates. The 'Nossa Senhora do Monte' church has practically become an obligatory site to visit. Its antique beauty and the fact that it is the final resting place of the late Emperor of Austria, are the main attractions.

Monte is located at the head of the amphitheatre of Funchal, a mere 10 minutes' drive from the city center. Its lush flora is of the most exotic on the Island, and the gardens are sublime. Many stunning walks are available in the area allowing you to enjoy the wonders of nature as well as astounding views.

The 'Quinta'

The house is built on a single level. A part of the house is over 100 years old, having been extended in 1960. It is in a reasonable state of repair, but some decoration and/or extension work is advisable.

Surroundings

The entrance to the 'Quinta' is via a long and impressive driveway, paved in Madeiran stone, with centenary trees on either side. This offers the property total privacy.
An excellent covered barbecue area in the garden is surrounded by lawns and exotic trees and shrubs, with a great view of the city.
The access to the remainder of the property is through an amazing variety of trees (some very rare and therefore protected), flowers and shrubs, and always via paths in the same traditions stone paving.
There are also two stone barns on the property, which can be renovated and also enjoy the great views.
